My name is Barb, I began to sew over 15 years ago under the supervision of my mom, Denise. I have made various things over the years from my wedding dress to window treatments to quilts for my kids. A friend encouraged me to try creating a fun fabric handbag about five years ago and after some trial and error I designed our first line of bags, The Layered Look. My mom, thankfully, took an interest in my new creation and offered to help sew and accompany me to area craft shows. I accepted and haven't let her go since! :) Our bag design has come such a long way since then and I am continually looking for new embellishments and features to add to continue to make Excess Baggage a fun, unique, functional accessory. My mom and I make all the bags by hand, one at time. We have so much fun sewing together although time is scarce sometimes with mom working a full time job and me caring for my four young children. But it is so worth it and a joy to meet new people and offer such a fun accessory.

We sell our bags at area art and craft shows all year long and list much of our inventory in our Etsy store. We love meeting new people and it's always a treat when we have repeat customers or someone falls in love with a print or style. When you smile we smile!
